Sustainable Social Media Detox
Social Media can influence our lives. On average we watch Facebook or Instagram every day. Here you will quickly come into contact with advertisements and various promotions. These ads and promotions are often so well put together that we get the idea that we need and have to buy everything. With a sustainable social media detox you can begin the new year with a good start!
According to my Instagram statistics, I spend an average of 54 minutes a day on Instagram. To be honest, I would really like to experience what it is like to live without social media. No Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, WhatsApp etc. Being independent of my phone. What remains then? Would there be more room for creativity and originality? Or would FOMO (Fear or missing out) get in my way?
I do not know. I will probably test it in the future. For now I have discovered that there are also Instagram accounts that are motivating. They encourage you to follow your heart, pursue your dreams and be happy with what you have. They are also busy making the world a bit more sustainable.
Unfollow Negativity
Unfollow all social media accounts that don’t make you happy or that make you feel unsatisfied. As easy as that!
This also helps you to live in a more conscious and sustainable way. You come into contact less with environmentally polluting temptations. This will make it easier to stay inspired to live sustainably.
Follow Positivity!
The people here share many positive things via social media. Especially sustainability, zero waste, veganism, and sustainable fashion. They give a lot of inspiration to live as sustainably as possible. They also share many tips and try to make the world a little better.
Saskia Mulder | @thesocialreporter
Besides her work, Saskia Mulder is very active on Instagram. Through vlogs in her story she shares as much information as possible about all topics of climate change and environment.
I am especially a fan because she is always as honest as possible about what is going on in the world. She also knows a lot about it and is always positive!
Jonna Jinton | @jonnajinton
Jonna can be found on Instagram, but especially her Youtube video’s are super inspring.
Nature is so important and sometimes we forget that. She provides inspiration to reconnect with nature and to respect nature.

Sofie Senden | @sofiesenden
She has an animal shelter for animals in need. She also makes videos and vlogs about veganism, second-hand shopping and zero waste life. You can also find her on Instagram!
These Instagrammers and Youtubers are busy with sustainability. Yet there are a number who also promote products. Although these products are sustainable, we often do not need it.
Therefore always check first whether you really need something. When you really need something, see if you can find the second hand.
Can’t find it second-hand? Then of course it is best to buy it from a sustainable brand that these Instagrammers and Youtubers recommend.
I hope that this post about a sustainable social media detox can help you further in creating a sustainable life in 2020. Do you think there is someone missing from the list? Let me know in the comments!
